avenue brunch house

As you explore these brunch spots in Pasadena and other dining options, you’ll find that the city is truly a gastronomic paradise, offering something for everyone. Going to brunch at République is like indulging in a little slice of Los Angeles history. Located in the heart of the city in a building originally commissioned by Charlie Chaplin (yes, really) in 1929, this spot is a match made in heaven for foodies and cinephiles alike. When it comes to the menu, you can’t go wrong…unless, of course, you skip on their housemade bread.

Restaurants and Bars to Try This Weekend in the Bay Area: April 26

Dig into the ADB Loco Moco, a Hawaiian classic that brings together teriyaki-glazed spam, breakfast sausage, rice, country gravy, a fried egg, scallions and black lime togarashi. Balance out that savory masterpiece with the ungodly All Day Baby Hotcake, a crispy-on-the-edges-fluffy-on-the-inside pancake that’s topped with ricotta, blueberry, pistachio and smoked maple. Avenue Brunch House is a neighborhood restaurant that specializes in delicious brunch options.

The Bartolotta Restaurants

The restaurant has a sophisticated atmosphere and a beautiful outdoor patio. A few of the featured entrees are pastrami and egg hash ($40), pan roasted North Road salmon ($42) and a char-grilled hangar steak ($65). The plated menu includes a classic Big Boy burger ($18), shrimp & grits ($18), eggs & hash ($16) and more.

The menu they created together fuses the Southern flavors and dishes Corbin grew up eating and preparing alongside his grandmother with a vibrant aesthetic and produce-driven approach. Stepping into Lady Byrd Café in Echo Park feels like you’ve stumbled upon a whimsical portal in the middle of the city. Open since 1983, this beloved Inglewood strip-mall diner will satisfy all your cravings for a soul food breakfast. If we had to choose a restaurant that embodies the rich culture, community and spirit of Los Angeles, it would be Distrito Catorce. Named after LA City Council District 14, an area that’s distinctly Latin American, this neighborhood gem situated in Boyle Heights was created to support and celebrate the vibrant community it’s a part of. The idea of brunch may not have originated in the sprawling city of Los Angeles, but it’s here that the iconic portmanteau truly hit its stride and became glorified as a weekend ritual. As easy as it is to stereotype and mock the feverish cult following that brunch has amassed, there’s no denying its irresistible allure. Our kitchen team is dedicated to providing a healthy and safe food environment.

A lot of the updates were spurred by feedback Michael received from diners at the Camelia location, which she’s now implementing in the new space. Salt’s Cure prides itself on California-grown ingredients and brunch time is no exception. Chef Chris Phelps’s thoughtfully sourced menu offers fantastic things like the iconic oatmeal griddle cakes, a messy (in a good way) breakfast sandwich, and even a hearty grain bowl. While it’s tough not to fill up on pastries like croissants and caneles, save room for chef Ludo Lefevre’s signature omelet with Boursin cheese, the Mec muffin breakfast sandwich, and a napoleon for dessert. With seafood, pasta, and even Italian doughnuts on the menu, Tetto Rooftop Bar is a crowd pleaser. This funky bar design isn’t what comes to mind when you think of the Rocky Mountains, but savvy restaurateurs know being unconventional can help your brand stand out. Instead of going with an alpine-style theme, Poka Lola Social Club opted for bold patterns and sleek seating. The shape of this bar gives it a communal feel, where guests can stay a while and order snacks like a cheese board or BBQ pork sliders. They carved out two corner nooks with built-in shelving, cabinets, and even a sink. The narrow console ensures a streamlined look while still providing extra room for taste tests and hangs.

It would be ridiculous to not have the ability to chill pre-made mixtures or drinks before serving.

The cabinetry paint is Grasslands from Benjamin Moore and the fixtures are from Waterworks. This will keep top-heavy glasses from tumbling over the moment you touch your bar cart. And it prevents dust from collecting inside your glasses—so you won’t have to rinse them every time you whip them out. Take advantage of this flexibility, and move your bar cart around.

The high-end materials elevate this small contemporary bar and serve an elegant look. The roughly textured glazed surface of the bronze backsplash tile creates a unique and eye-catching look between the black cabinets. The black cabinetry is completed with black granite countertop, silver square knobs, and matte black faucet. The gold chandelier creates a focal point between the upper cabinets and highlights the beautiful backsplash tile. The lovely blue paint of the shaker cabinets and glass-fronted cabinets creates a romantic and intimate atmosphere in this transitional bar.

And of course, consider accessibility for customers who may need more space or those who may use mobility aids. Keeping your restaurant’s clientele and atmosphere in mind can help drive your design decisions. And don’t worry – you don’t need to be a pro to create something customers will love. Designed by Meredith McBrearty, this basement wine cellar is cozy and comfy—the perfect place for lounging and sipping.

No matter what kind of refreshments you're in the mood for, these 68 home bar ideas will make you want to clink glasses. You might even start to cheat on your favorite bartender—you know, the one who always gets the gin-to-tonic ratio just right. Take a look at your bar space and see how nearby walls can become part of the bar. We’re not just talking about design and color – use walls as part of your overall theme. Install a few shelves that you can use to hold bottles, or set up a stemware rack for your best glasses. Another option is to build a wall niche to display and store bottles.

With her architectural background, she enjoys integrates design and human comforts into a functional space with an aesthetic. Scenes of whimsy headline the arched bar alcove in Janie Jones's Birmingham cottage. Arabescato stone (Surface One) grounds the playful Gracie’s Stonyford wallpaper. Playful gestures, such as the bar's neon sign, animate the Jazz-era details of this 1920s New Jersey estate by designer Steven Gambrel. Deep, satin-brushed shades of teal (Pantone Stargazer) connect the bar to the neighboring library. If you’re a big fan of wine, treat yourself to a pretty decanter.

Glass shelves provide a seamless look for the backsplash while lower cabinets keep a lot of bottles for storage. From lighting and hardware to tabletop decor, gold elements add instant glitz and glam to any home bar. Take a note from Sara Malek Barney of BANDD/DESIGN and try a gold-rimmed glassware, a gold ice bucket and a cutting board with gold accents to create a cohesive style. Whether used for making ice (essential if you love cocktails!) or washing glasses, a bar sink is highly functional. Here, interior designer Jaqui Seerman proves you don't need a ton of space to install a bar sink.

In this midcentury Dallas home, designer Meredith McBrearty and architect Ryan Street cleverly added a bar into the dining room to break up the sprawling space. Meier relied on reclaimed materials like the barn wood ceiling and oak-and-paver flooring (Surfaces Material Gallery) to give the space rustic charm and character. But if you’re drawing a blank, look for bare walls and unused corners. Can’t decide whether you want a luxurious built-in bar or a flexible bar cart? The old-school favorite offers the ample storage space and elegant feel of a built-in bar.

This industrial home bar gives the sense of an Irish pub with its brick walls, wood u-shaped bar, and turquoise bar stools. Wooden shelves hung on the brick wall and provide a space for bottles. The wooden bar provides a large preparing area with its u-shaped counter. Turquoise bar stools bring joy to the atmosphere while the wood floor completing the industrial style.

Folding louvered doors reveal a chic glazed-tile bar for poolside drinks on the terrace at Ceara Donnelley's 18th-century Charleston home. Art is a great way to finish off any space—your home bar, included. So once you’ve stocked up on entertaining essentials, make space for a few pretty pieces.

Eastern Caribbean Antilles Cruise

Although the menu was experiential, the dishes delivered didn’t wow us, especially when multiple servers lifted individual smoke-filled glass tops to be what seemed like a side dish of fresh peas and egg yolk. Our style was definitely the more lively, shared plates scenes. Beneath one bed were two large drawers, and the closet/armoire featured another set of drawers so that everything had a place. We couldn’t fit our suitcases under the beds, but because of all the drawer space, we could fit them into the closet. While the vanity space in the bathroom was almost non-existent, we used two baskets from the closet to hold our toiletries on the shelf below the sink to keep things organized and within reach.

Sail from Barcelona or Athens

Relax around the pool, or watch the sun sink over the horizon from the Sunset Bar. On Edge-series ships, you can dine on BBQ favorites at the al fresco Rooftop Garden Grill, or sink into a sofa with your favorite cocktail on the Magic Carpet, with ocean views on three sides. Choose The Retreat for the ultimate in luxury, with access to a private sundeck, exclusive lounge, and fine dining restaurant, Luminae at The Retreat. White sand beaches, sapphire-blue sea, the rhythm of reggae on the breeze, and the clink of ice in a rum punch are just a few experiences you’ll have on a Virgin Islands cruise.

All Food

Enjoy luxurious staterooms, cuisine, and service as you discover St. Thomas, St. Thomas, The British Virgin Islands and Fort Lauderdale. Climb, snorkel, swim, bike or chill in some of the world’s most beautiful places. "We loved the ship and everything about it. We tried all the restaurants and it is difficult to select one as a favorite - as all had exciting menus and sooooo good food - freshly made of high-quality ingredients." The Virgin Islands, located to the east of Puerto Rico, were originally named by Christopher Columbus, who called them the “Archipelago of Saint Ursula and the 11,000 Virgins”, in honor of Saint Ursula and her followers. The archipelago is politically divided with some of the islands under British rule and the rest under American rule.

Why Cruise to the U.S. Virgin Islands With Celebrity Cruises

Once the hangout of pirates and buccaneers, these laid-back islands are devoted to the pleasurable pursuits of sailing, snorkeling, shopping, or simply snoozing in a hammock strung between two coconut palms. The rooftop lounge in the forward ship was dotted with shaded loungers and multiple hot tubs with a private bar, panoramic views, and nightly happy hour. We spent every afternoon lounging on the rooftop between excursions and watched the sunset during happy hour with an intimate group of cruisers we befriended. On our sea day, when the pool was most packed, the lounge remained an empty reprieve, and we certainly felt like RockStars with our whims catered to at every turn. The islands are divided between Britain and the U.S., and each has its own personality. Divers will love St. Croix, while sleepy St. John is all lush rainforest and sugary beaches.

Ferry Schedules & Times

Our most cosmopolitan island, St. Thomas has something for everyone. Enjoy the best shopping in the Caribbean, visit the Wreck of the Wit Shoal II, take a 700-foot skylift ride, and stand-up paddle board off beaches like Magens Bay. Rum distilling and the Virgin Islands go hand-in-hand, where you’ll find fascinating distilleries and flavor-packed rum cocktails to try.

At Virgin Islands National Park in St. John, you can take a walk through history, hike some of the most breathtaking scenery on the islands, and explore the various salt ponds, mangroves, and coral reefs. We were told he always greets his ships when he’s on the island, sometimes with fireworks. The Virgin Islands is one of the top spots in the Caribbean for both snorkeling and diving. From Tortola, dive the RMS Rhone, now a thriving coral reef teeming with fish.

For two hours, we could take advantage of Redemption Spa’s steam room, sauna, salt therapy room, mud bath room, hot and cold plunge pools, and heated Turkish marble lounges. Sharing a room with a friend is always a tricky proposition, but even more so in the tight quarters of a cruise ship. My friend and I shared a 225-square-foot Sea Terrace suite and from the photos, it looked like we’d have some trouble squeezing in clothes for two. But we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival, as the suite was filled with plenty of space to accommodate all of our clothes and toiletries. Honestly, adults-only simply meant “adult time.” To us, that equated to a lot of relaxing, listening to live music, and reading on a lounge chair with a cocktail in hand.

Experience the world's #1 cruise line for yourself

We didn’t feel like we had to dress to the nines or that meals were completely over the top when dining every evening. The restaurants are very hip, exciting, and social environments. Our favorite was Extra Virgin, “Elevated Italian,” on Deck 6. From crispy artichokes with caper aioli and charred lemon aperitivo to the secondo porcini-rubbed New York Strip with Calabrian chili butter, farro and sauteed escarole, we raved about every bite. We weren’t the only ones who loved this spot; every passenger we spoke to said it was their favorite, and we failed to secure a second reservation due to its popularity. Of course, a sea day wouldn’t be a sea day without a visit to the spa, and Valiant Lady offered an easy and inexpensive way to enjoy the spa with its Thermal Suite Pass.

We think our detour was due to being the last excursion of the day. An archaeology program at Virgin Islands National Park explores the human habitation here, dating back to around 1000 BC. This small island has been the home to African and Caribbean cultures, as well as European colonial leaders, at different times through the centuries. You can learn about everything from the earliest inhabitants to the underground railway and emancipation in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

This schedule displays the information for all three islands together. Rent a private Ocean View Cabana for a luxurious beach day you'll never forget. "I loved my experience with Virgin Voyages. I have previously cruised with many other cruise lines. This cruise had the best entertainment and food." Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines.

The U.S. Virgin Islands are home to hundreds of species of beautiful tropical fish like angelfish, parrotfish, and blue tangs, which make for great underwater viewing. You can even find sea turtles drifting through the deep blue and rays skimming across the seabed around  St. Croix. You may spot dolphins, too, particularly during the winter months. The U.S. Virgin Islands are home to some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. St. John’s Trunk Bay is known for its clear turquoise waters, while St. Thomas’ Magens Bay is popular for its white-sand shores and lush greenery.

You'll also learn about the establishment of the Virgin Islands National Park and the Coral Reef National Monument in more recent years. The rich and diverse culture of St. Croix is something everyone should experience. You can spend the morning touring the Whim Plantation or snorkeling around Buck Island and the afternoon diving at Cane Bay or enjoying local cuisine at one of many restaurants. Virgin Islands, you'll find excellent snorkeling and scuba diving.

Although we didn’t stay in a RockStar suite, which are at least double in size, feature a bottomless in-room bar, and have marble bathrooms with Peek-a-Boo showers (and sometimes a bathtub), we did get RockStar VIP access. We had decided to make our vacay a week of self-improvement, promising to partake in the ship’s more than 100 free exercise classes. We also swore we would utilize the open-air track on Deck 17 called The Runway, join the calming morning yoga sessions on The Perch, and visit the ship’s gym, B-Complex. Virgin Voyages is pretty gung-ho about its scarlet red hammock on the balconies, but having the hammock hanging down made it feel even smaller for both of us to enjoy the space at the same time. It is a petty complaint, considering we were hardly ever in our suite, but the only time we would be in the hammock was when the other was in the shower.

Visit Fort Christiansvaern in St. Croix, or take a dip in the warm, clear blue waters at Cane Bay Beach. Get ready to rejuvenate mind and body in every sense on a luxury cruise with Celebrity. The only areas that ever felt crowded were the pools at the Aquatic Club and Gym and Tonic, which is pretty typical of any cruise ship, especially on sea days. But besides feeling like we had the ship to ourselves, there was the feeling of inclusion aboard Valiant Lady. We tried a similar excursion in Barbados but were disappointed when the catamaran took us in view of the ship, deposited us on a crowded beach, and then sailed us back after a quick swim, claiming the waves were too rough. We later discovered others who took the same excursion and sailed further afield through the same company.

The diversity was evident with and felt by the passengers and crew, and it seemed everyone was simply happy to be together at sea. I miss Valiant Lady and her crew and hope to sail with Virgin Voyages again soon. One word of caution is that many of the excursions are extremely large and crowded.

How much does it cost to go on Windstar Wind Star?

In 2024, the 312-passenger Star Pride will call on places like Heimaey Island, where passengers see the frozen-in-place lava flows of a famous 1973 eruption that covered a third of the town. The first of the vessels, to be called Star Seeker, is a still-under-construction, 224-passenger vessel that Mystic was originally building for its Atlas Ocean Voyages brand to operate under the name World Seeker. The press conference took place at Seatrade Cruise Global, the cruise industry's annual meetup at the Miami Beach Convention Center. More than 10,000 executives from cruise lines, shipyards, suppliers and destinations attend the event. "This is going to allow Windstar not only to grow but to go back to favorite destinations where we have been before and explore new destinations," Prelog told cruise writers at a press conference in Miami Beach, Florida. Small-ship specialist Windstar Cruises is finally back in growth mode.

Star Collector: Caribbean Explorations

By day, most women wear walking shorts, slacks, skirts, sarongs and cover-ups; in the evenings resort-style dresses and dressy pants. Men usually wear walking or Bermuda shorts or khakis by day and lightweight trousers and collared shirts in the evening. Windstar doesn't allow shorts, flip-flops, jeans, hats or T-shirts during dinner at either of its dining venues. Windstar Cruises offers a trio of masted sailing ships, as well as a trio of all-suite small cruise ships. Passengers embrace a casual-yet-upscale environment and active exploration in port. Deck barbecues and beach parties are a highlight, as are water sports right from the ship.

Hotel Service Charge

In fact, it's one of just two traditional cruise lines that dominate the market for French Polynesia voyages — the other being one-ship line Paul Gauguin Cruises. Currently, Windstar's itinerary lineup offers sailings as short as six nights and as long as 55 nights. The company generally doesn't do short sailings of just three or four nights, unlike big-ship lines. In the winter, at least two and sometimes three Windstar vessels will move to the warm waters of the Caribbean, another area of focus. In addition to classic Caribbean sailings, those vessels also often do sailings through the Panama Canal, another specialty of the line. Though both ships have ice-strengthened hulls capable of sailing in the polar regions, Windstar doesn't currently operate such itineraries, focusing primarily on the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific Islands.

In particular, please note that we assume no responsibility for loss, damage, or delay while baggage is in the custody of airlines. In that event, Windstar's liability will be limited to the amount so specified. We suggest clothes that are light, cool, and made of natural fabrics like cotton and silk.

Search for new species in a place where they make new discoveries every other day. And relax on some of the most beautiful islands and coastlines the Americas have to offer. Each of Windstar Cruises yachts accommodates between 148 to 342 guests. This intimacy provides you with the luxuries of time, space, and freedom to immerse yourself in both the journey and the destination - in ways you may never have imagined possible. It's a top excursion during calls at the islands of Raiatea and Bora Bora. Snorkeling with stingrays and joining a marine biologist in search of dolphins and whales are other popular excursions.

Jewels of the Windward Islands

Windstar features voyages focused specifically on the Western Mediterranean or the Eastern portion and voyages that include days traveling beyond the edges of the Mediterranean to such places as the Canary Islands. Windstar said each of the ships would have an Amphora dining room, a Windstar signature, and a more casual Star Grill. Each of the vessels will have a no-extra-charge specialty restaurant and offer 24-hour room service, too. Please review your air and cruise documents to ensure that your tickets are correct. We recommend that you call the airline 72 hours prior to your departure time to reconfirm your flight.

Wind Star features wide open, teak decks—quite unusual for small ships. Guests will find hidden nooks for private moments giving them a feeling of being on their own private veranda.

Passengers Under 21

During Wednesday's announcement, Prelog said the addition of the two Mystic vessels would allow Windstar to send one of its sailing ships, the 148-passenger Wind Star, back to French Polynesia starting in 2027. Wind Star will join the 312-passenger Star Breeze in sailing year-round in French Polynesia, a major expansion for Windstar in the region. Wind Surf underwent a significant renovation of public spaces and suites, including an expanded lounge with new lights and sound for upcoming stage performances. Relax into the destinations you’re visiting at the new World Spa by Windstar, which will offer regional spa treatments, including massage styles like Swedish, Japanese Shiatsu and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.

Beaches, biosphere preserves, weathered forts, Panama Canal gates the size of tennis courts, and more are on the horizon. The trips all are one-way, starting in either Aruba in the Caribbean or the port of Balboa on the Pacific side of Panama. Another call at little-visited Grundarfjordur, along the remote Snæfellsnes Peninsula, offers the chance to hike onto the glacier atop nearby Snæfellsjökull volcano, the setting for Jules Verne's 19th-century classic "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

We scour the world for amazing places just this side of unreachable, then seek out the most authentic ways for guests to experience them - in small groups that are easily absorbed by local cultures rather than intruding on them. Our itineraries are port intensive, often with exclusive landfalls larger ships can't access. And we often stay late into the evening or even overnight in places where neon dims the stars. The Mediterranean trips offer a wide range of port stops and vary greatly in length. There is everything from relatively short, seven-night sailings around the sunny Greek islands to 23-day voyages that span a good chunk of the Mediterranean from Montenegro and Croatia to the far western coast of Spain. Only Windstar’s private yacht style cruises brings you close enough so you can truly experience it.

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point Disney's New Private Island Destination

disney cruise bahamas

The island’s untouched beaches, glistening waters, plentiful natural splendor, and various excursions make Lighthouse Point ideal for an unforgettable vacation. Disney’s Castaway Cay (pronounced key) is a 1,000-acre island, 118 km due north of Nassau. Although DCL is the first cruise line to have a private island, most other major cruise lines have followed suit. Castaway Cay and Royal Caribbean’s island, CocoCay are two of the most well-appointed private cruise ship islands. Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has five – soon to be eight – ships that sail all over the world.

Personal Navigators: Disney Wish 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral – January 30, 2023

You don’t have to book your excursions through Disney Cruise Line, but you probably should. Visit Hacienda Campo Rico, where your guides will demonstrate how to ride your horse. Riders and horses will be paired by previous riding ability, size, and age for a 2-hour trail ride through a scenic 2,200-acre private ranch that was once a sugarcane plantation. Ride past lagoons, through tropical vegetation, and see the Karsts Mountains and coastal plains. Take a motorcoach to St. Georges, a UNESCO World Heritage town which dates back to 1609.

Night Southern Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral

An expert chocolatier teaches you how to dip, glaze, and fill molds to create your own delectable chocolate treats to take home with you. And for good measure, you’ll get to sample several different kinds of chocolate during the event. Note that this is by far one of the most popular excursions in the entire region, and space is extremely limited — book as early as you can. A special treat on cruises that spend the night in King’s Wharf, this unique nighttime adventure takes takes you into the heart of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. Board a 50-foot glass-bottom boat for ghostly commentary about the history and legends of the area.

When Can You Book Disney Shore Excursions?

However, if you want one, be persistent, and maybe you’ll get lucky. Concierge and Platinum and Pearl cruisers often book cabanas early because they can cancel them later. Keep refreshing the app; maybe one will be available when someone cancels. If you want to get off the ship in Nassau and explore, you can walk into town and check out the shops and restaurants. You can also book a shore excursion through Disney Cruise Line or on your own.

Night Silver Anniversary at Sea Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral with 2 Stops at Castaway Cay

With Disney’s commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and embracing local culture, this new destination will likely be well-received. Given what we know so far, it’s also likely to become a must-see spot for Disney Cruise Line enthusiasts when it opens in 2024. As Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is still under construction and not set to welcome visitors until 2024, it is yet to be determined whether it will live up to the expectations. Lighthouse Point offers families a lush paradise adorned with Bahamian colors. The sweeping rooftops and vibrant interiors evoke the beauty of the Bahamas, while festive music fills the air with the smell of local flavors.

When Will Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point Open?

More than half of the ride was the conveyor belt lift to the top, and even the rest of the experience was not all that exciting. In our opinion, some of the waterslides on other contemporary cruise lines surpass the AquaMouse on the fun scale. Feeling a bit overheated from the island, I decided to go back to the cabin to rest up while the hubby took on the AquaMouse. The quoted wait time was 30 minutes; though, he ended up waiting close to an hour as the ride broke down for a 15-minute period.

Stops at Nassau in the Bahamas

Mix the ancient with the exhilarating on this multi-faceted experience. First, spend nearly two hours on an educational guided tour of the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben — a renowned archaeological site. Then, move on to the purely fun-focused portion of the day at Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom, featuring 8 water slides, a slow inner tube ride, and two zip line courses.

The development of Lighthouse Point will encompass a sustainably-designed pier and is anticipated to accommodate only one Disney Cruise Line ship at a time. This exclusive destination aspires to provide Disney cruise guests with a memorable experience amidst the breathtaking turquoise waters and white sand beaches of Eleuthera. A 7-night inaugural cruise to Lighthouse Point aboard the Disney Fantasy from Port Canaveral, Florida will occur on June 8, 2024. This ultimate Disney Cruise Line island destination itinerary will feature not one, but two stops at Lighthouse Point … and that’s not all! One day of sun-drenched serenity at Castaway Cay also awaits your family on this once-in-a-lifetime sailing.

This tropical port-of-call will showcase Bahamian culture and nature with designs inspired by the island’s organic shapes and vibrant colors. The Lighthouse Point cruises are scheduled to go out of Fort Lauderdale. A female guest was successfully airlifted from Disney Fantasy on the morning of Monday, April 15, when the cruise ship was enjoying a day at sea after having departed Port Canaveral on Saturday, April 13. The 3 and 4 night Disney cruises are also very popular as an addition to a land-based vacation at Walt Disney World. Many guests start out staying at a Disney resort, and move on to finish their vacation with a relaxing voyage aboard Disney Cruise Line. Add in the convenience of having a single, dedicated travel agent from start to finish, and it’s easy to see why using The Vacationeer is the best way to book your Disney Cruise.

Today, we were visiting Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas. Still, with so much to see and do around the ship, we decided to go ashore for only a couple hours in the morning. Disney Cruise Line is stepping up their game with Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, promising a unique blend of magic, culture, and natural beauty that will immerse guests in the Bahamian way of life. A combination of family-friendly activities, tranquil adult escapes, and dedicated children’s areas ensures this little corner of Lighthouse Point will be an exceptional destination for all visitors. Similar to Disney’s Castaway Cay, there will be an abundance of opportunities for guests of all ages to enjoy fun in the sun. Exclusively to Caribbean and Bahamas sailings, Disney's private island Castaway Cay invites cruisers to enjoy balmy tropical weather and world-class recreation on a Bahamian oasis.

Obviously, construction delays were an inevitability with the border closures and cruise industry essentially pausing for over a year. The brilliantly colored cultural pavilion and its Junkanoo-inspired arch will invite guests to embrace the traditions of The Bahamas, along with the sights, sounds and spirit of the country’s signature festival. And it’s true many of them offer a substantially similar experience — often at a lower price — when booked independently. And virtually every port has information booths right outside the dock where you can book experiences directly. San Juan is Puerto Rico’s capital and most populated city, and the oldest city under jurisdiction of the United States. More than 3,000,000 Americans call Puerto Rico home, and many more are fortunate to visit this lush island as it hosts 500 cruise ships each year.

In addition to easy access to Walt Disney World, Shades of Green features delicious dining options, wellness centers and kid-friendly activities. Guests can also receive exclusive military discounts on theme park tickets, expanding access for more military families to take part in the remarkable world of Disney. The special military rates are offered for active and retired military members of the U.S. Many of these discounts are minor but are still nice if you want to shave a few dollars off the cost of a cruise vacation.

With these special offers and benefits, the dream of embarking on an unforgettable Disney adventure can become a reality for those who serve our country. That said, it’s still a little difficult to find a discounted stateroom on the new Disney Wish mainly because it’s still a very new and popular ship. But from time to time, you will find a military discount on the Wish during select times of the year in certain stateroom categories. Below, you’ll find the complete list of select sailings that offer a special military rate for 2023 and 2024. You’ll need to tell the person who answers the phone that you’d like to purchase military discounted tickets. Tell them which cruise you’d like to go on, and provide your payment details.

By combining the military discount with any applicable special offers and promotions, you can maximize your savings and enhance your vacation experience even further. These special offers and promotions are subject to availability, and the terms and conditions may vary. In addition to the discounted rates, Disney Cruise Line also offers unique benefits and amenities to military personnel who book with the military discount. These can include onboard credits, special military-themed events and activities, and exclusive access to designated areas or events during the cruise. It’s worth noting that the discounted rates for cruise packages may not be combinable with other special offers or promotions.

Discounted tickets may not be purchased and then given away to non-military members as gifts. A US military member or their spouse needs to be present on the cruise. It is also only available for one stateroom per military member. If you’re a current member of Active Duty, National Guard, or the Reserves, you’ll also need to show proof that your service is current to the year of your vacation. Once you’re on the page, click “Book Now.” Choose the cruise you’d like to go on and check out. The discount varies for every cruise and every year of service, but it seems to be a significant deal.

All About the Disney Cruise Military and Veteran Discount

After lunch we decided to explore the ship until it was time for the mandatory safety drill. The great thing about the cruise is that after you book and pay, all the food is free. The exceptions to this are alcoholic drinks, dining at the Palo or Remy restaurants, and a few things here and there like kids smoothies. After we were all registered, we headed through a Mickey shaped doorway and got in line for a family photo in front of a generic Disney cruise logo background. Some very friendly cast members (with a lot of energy) ask your name and then announce you as you enter the ship.

One year we bought a trip with the military discount to Walt Disney World on December 26th and didn’t travel until September of the following year. The military deals are for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8-night cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean with a few Mexican Riviera options. Disney’s commitment to veterans and military families spans across a century, from its founder’s early experiences in the Red Cross to the company’s modern-day employment initiatives. The legacy of respect and gratitude continues to better the lives of veterans returning to civilian life and honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. New and innovative programs designed to elevate the education and career opportunities for military personnel and their families continue to be developed today.

For our 3-nighter, it was $60 which you pay after the cruise as you drive out. After parking, we grabbed our carry-on and proceeded to the terminal.

Sail 500 miles deeper into the Gulf of Alaska and Prince William Sound on our back-to-back Voyage of the Glaciers Alaska cruise. Spend 14 days roundtrip from Vancouver, B.C., stopping in historic port cities like Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. Enjoy three glacier-viewing experiences on every itinerary — including Glacier Bay National Park, Hubbard Glacier and College Fjord. Sail the Inside Passage, a series of channels and waterways formed by the march of glaciers, on your 7-day roundtrip Alaska cruise from Seattle.

Activities and entertainment, like go-karting, slides and laser tag, are abundant. The Encore's most luxurious accommodations feature spacious rooms — the bathrooms are nearly double the size of those in standard staterooms — a private sundeck and a concierge. In 2024, Majestic Princess and Discovery Princess, the line's newest Alaska ship, will both sail roundtrip from Seattle.

Twice the glaciers

Return visitors who still want that big ship experience might try a different category of cruise line. The major operators—Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, are all premium-tier cruise lines, but the luxury cruise lines have also deployed ships to Alaskan waters. It’s worth noting that shoreside transportation outside of cruise line-operated transfers can be more limited in Whittier, so passengers embarking there may wish to ensure they include transfers from Anchorage in their cruise package.

Gulf of Alaska Cruises: Denali National Park, Kenai Peninsula and More Beautiful Scenery

Life on board this ship features a variety of dining venues, engaging talks from guest speakers, a cozy library and plenty of entertainment. For guests cruising with children, Oceania has an Alaska Explorer Youth Program that includes activities and games inspired by The Last Frontier. With over 50 cruise ships sailing to Alaska, selecting the perfect Alaska cruise can seem overwhelming.

There's nothing quite as exhilarating as a helicopter tour over Alaska's sprawling landscapes. Plan your romantic Alaskan cruise with our adventurer’s guide to discovering the coziest vacation spots and most scenic restaurants for couples traveling in Alaska. As you plan your Alaska vacation, you might be torn between traveling by cruise ship, plane or even car.

Alaska Dream Cruise’s “Glacier Bay & Island Adventures”

Note that the ship is departing the cruise line after its Alaska season, so this is your last chance to sail on the elegant cruise ship. It boasts “the finest cuisine at sea,” so if you’re a foodie in search of Alaskan flavors, an Oceania cruise could be the ideal fit for you. Of its 275+ Alaska itinerary shore excursions (some of which are in the Pacific Northwest and Canada), over 50 feature drinking and dining experiences — think tea service, winery visits, cooking classes, “seafood feasts,” and beyond. The major large cruise lines you’ll find operating in the region are Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Princess Cruises. For the 2023 season, Princess Cruises has seven ships sailing the region, more than any other cruise line.

Windstar Cruises

If spotting wildlife is a priority, consider cruising during the salmon runs, when bears are most active and can be spotted from the decks of the ship. Humpback whales often follow schools of herring and other small fish during the summer and can be seen anytime between May and September before they migrate to Hawaii or Mexico. The Discovery Princess had her naming ceremony in April of 2022, so she’s a brand-new addition to the line’s fleet. Cruise guests will receive a free Medallion device with a complimentary lanyard, which allows you to do things like open your cabin door, track onboard purchases, find family and friends, locate venues, and check daily activities. There’s plenty to do on board, too, including making use of the two swimming pools, five whirlpools, and Dr. Andrew Weil's spa and wellness program. Not to mention a card room, casino, library, observation bar, and beauty salon.

If you’re looking for something less time consuming than an Arctic excursion, but are still looking for stunning views of glaciers and wildlife, day cruises are a great option for young families and adventurers alike. Starting in 2024, Uncruise Adventures will be offering a winter cruise, where winter sports and northern lights viewings are all part of the package! Running February through March, this is a great option for travelers looking to experience Alaska during the winter months. The majority of cruise ships cruising to or throughout Alaska depart from Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, Canada; Whittier, Alaska; or Seward, Alaska.

Your best high-end bets are Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn, Silversea and Windstar. You'll need to set aside a good chunk of money to spend on shore excursions when you're in Alaska. They can be incredibly expensive when compared to experiences in the Caribbean or Mexico. Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. With a Cruise Plus Hotel Package, a Princess representative meets you at the airport and pier, transporting you to and from your hotel. The package includes the cost of your hotel stay, transportation, luggage handling and the services of the representative.

The advantage of small ships is that they're more nimble than big ships, putting destinations like the Alaska Native village of Kake, the Wrangell Narrows and other tiny inlets within reach. Cruises through Alaska's gulf also tend to pass through the Inside Passage, with typical stops including Sitka, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. Some will also call on more off-the-beaten-path ports like Icy Strait Point and Haines. The Inside Passage is a sheltered waterway between Vancouver Island and the British Columbia mainland that extends north to Alaska.

Many cruise lines also travel to additional locations such as Sitka, Hoonah/Icy Strait Point, and Haines. Programs like Princess Cruises' Cruisetours take the stress out of planning on-shore excursions and curate incredible itineraries for extensive, luxurious travel across the state. When it comes to cruising in Alaska, you’ll be spoiled for choice as no other state has more coastline to explore. The best cruises in Alaska offer unparalleled experiences that will bring you up close to some of the most unique and awe-inspiring places in the world.
